In the year celebrating the 100th anniversary of Portuguese animation,, Portugal was the country of honour at Annecy this year. The Festival presented seven programmes of Portuguese short films, having more than 200 industry professionals and Portuguese students attending the festival.
In this scenario, which has given international audiences the opportunity to discover some of the classic and contemporary works of Portuguese animation, Percebes, by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, produced by BAP – ANIMATION STUDIOS and IKKI FILMS, won the Cristal for Best Short Film at Annecy.
Portugal was also represented in a number of sessions and events throughout the festival, including a stand dedicated to the country and a masterclass with Regina Pessoa, who also won the Cristal for Best Short in 2006 with Tragic Story With Happy Ending and the Jury Prize in 2019 with Uncle Thomas, Accounting For The Days. Regina Pessoa was also invited to create the Festival’s image for the second time, and this year was honoured with a bronze plaque of her hands for the future Walk of Fame in the new facilities being built by the Festival.
