Each year on 20 June, the world celebrates World Refugee Day, the international day to honour people who have been forced to flee.
To the refugee children, Rai Kids dedicates the premiere of Dounia and the Princess of Aleppo (2022) a Canadian/French animated feature film created and written by Marya Zarif, directed by Marya Zarif and André Kadi, and produced by Judith Beauregard.
The film, which premiered in June 2022 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, tells the story of the migratory journey of a little girl and her grandparents, who leave the war, and with it, their city of Aleppo in Syria. It’s a quest of initiation that poetically and delicately tells the story of the exile and uprooting of war, while exploring current themes of migration, identity, dialogue of cultures, and living together. Throughout her journey, Dounia, whose name means “the world” in Arabic, is accompanied by the rich tales and music of her country.
The film premiers in Italy on Rai Gulp at 5:30 pm on June 20.
