Taking place from September 4-8 at UNIT.City in Kyiv, this year’s LINOLEUM Contemporary Animation and Media Art Festival will explore the theme Playgrounds.
Since its inception in 2014, LINOLEUM has become a vital showcase for global animation, presenting approximately 250 films annually, alongside workshops, lectures, and a special children’s program. The festival’s mission is to support animation artists, promote Ukrainian animation internationally, and celebrate creative talent in the field.
The official trailer for LINOLEUM 2024 has been crafted by Yuri Yefanov, a Zaporizhzhia-based artist known for using game simulations to explore alternate realities. His work delves into the intersection of everyday life and politics, creating unique social systems and mythologies. Yefanov’s projects have been featured at numerous film festivals and art venues across Europe and North America.
Yefanov remarks:
I project the future based on the disturbing situation the world is in now. I wondered if it was possible to imagine a future that was the opposite of today’s globally tense, pre-apocalyptic state. Game simulation is a very convenient tool in this sense. This video is the result of these thoughts.
LINOLEUM 2024 is supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, Kooperationsbüro Lemberg – Austrian Cooperation Office in Lviv, Ukraine Office Austria, and the Polish Institute in Kyiv.
