In anticipation of the upcoming Brand Licensing Europe (BLE) event in London from September 24-26, which is the only pan-European trade show dedicated to licensing and brand extension, The European Animation Journal, in collaboration with BLE, provides exclusive insights into the animation companies attending the event.
Two Daughters Entertainment is a TV and film production company known for creating high-quality animated content for children, young adults and families. Following the success of their global hit series Moley, the company is expanding their slate of engaging feature films.
Starting with the Moley 30-minute Special, the company started out as a single-product company called Master Moley Limited in August 2016. Master Moley Limited was established as a production company to produce a series of Master Moley productions that originated from the stories created by James Reatchlous for his daughters over twenty years ago. They started with a 30-minute Special, created for a family audience, which describes the adventures of a quintessentially English mole who lives underneath Windsor Castle. This led to the engagement to produce a 52 episode Moley TV Series for airing in over 119 countries across the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Here’s an interview with Rob Goodchild, Commercial Director at Two Daughters.
Why do you consider BLE to be an unmissable part of your yearly events calendar?
It’s the best licensing trade show in the world. It has a strong international presence and attracts a broad mix of visitors ensuring that we can get some quality time with old and new faces alike. We want to showcase our business and brands to the best of the global licensing industry. We are a business on a mission to be at the forefront of family entertainment. We have a slate of new IP in development across TV series and feature films supported by some of the world’s best talent.
What will make your stand at BLE 2024 (Booth E154) a must-visit for attendees?
Well, being a new exhibitor will help! We have plenty to discuss, including fresh content, new IPs, and an exciting vision for our brands.
Which IPs will be your main focus at this year’s event? Are you launching new brands, products and announcing any news at BLE?
We will be focussing on two core IP, which are Moley, an in-house children’s franchise that is broadcast in over 180 countries and Talking Tom and Friends, where we are representing UK rights on behalf of Outfit 7. In both cases we are presenting new content, partnerships and a huge amount of activities, all of which will generate strong brand awareness in the coming years.
As well as the new series of Moley in development we will also be working with Outfit 7 to introduce the brand new Talking Tom Suddenly Super TV series (52×11’) for pre-school children which will launch in the UK this year.
What do you hope to have achieved by the end of the three days?
To have met all the people that we want to meet, and all the people that we didn’t know we wanted to meet. That’s the beauty of BLE, you always go out with more than you expected….
What do you think are the biggest challenges and opportunities the licensing sector faces over the coming months and into 2025?
The fragmented media landscape means that brands need to be everywhere, all the time in order to attract and maintain audiences. It’s also important that IP has purpose and core themes to give them authenticity and longevity. With our Moley brand we are honing in on issues of sustainability and citizenship, creating pillars that enable us to develop content, partnerships and programmes that will inspire as well as entertain. This will enable us to reach our audience in a variety of ways from content platforms to publishing, education and experiences.
