CartoonNext serves as a European networking and training event tailored for animation professionals. It offers a unique chance to delve into upcoming trends in animation through specially curated keynotes and case studies presented by leading industry experts. Producers from across Europe can showcase innovative projects that employ a multi-platform approach.
Launched in 2022 in response to the evolving landscape of the industry, CartoonNext aims to bring together over 200 participants annually from more than 20 countries, providing effective professional training that fosters collaboration among producers, buyers, and creative teams from various EU nations.
Set to happen in Marseille from April 23-26, CartoonNext programme’s consists in 14 keynotes and 8 pitching sessions that will be spread over the 3 days of the event, with more than 30 experts and speakers from 12 countries around the world covering many fields of expertise.
The animation sector in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region has seen considerable growth lately, bolstered by a dedicated fund created in 2010. This fund allocates resources for feature films, shorts, specials, and audiovisual series at various production stages, including writing and development. With a budget of 1.4 million euros, it has supported over a hundred projects since its inception, many of which are produced in 15 regional studios or by local companies primarily located in Avignon, Arles, and Marseille, helping to establish a vibrant animation hub in this attractive region. The area also boasts several renowned schools.

Tailored support is available for project promoters to address their financial needs and assist in finding optimal locations to launch or grow their businesses. The Fonds d’Aide Cinéma, Audiovisuel et Multimédia Métropolitain (FACAMM), launched in 2024 and managed by the Mission Cinéma et Tournages, aims to foster the production of high-quality, original, and innovative works in both fiction and animation.
