Epic Story Media Distribution has acquired the global rights to forthcoming Icelandic 2D animated kids fantasy/adventure/comedy series, Ormhildur the Brave, securing worldwide distribution rights excluding select pre-sold territories and platforms.
Aimed at kids ages seven and up, this 26 x 22-minute series comes from Reykjavik-based studio Compass Films and explores the theme of climate awareness and sustainability through a fantastical lens.
Producer and CEO of Compass Films, Heather Millard has successfully financed the series with broadcast co-productions with KiKA and NDR (Germany), RÚV (Iceland), Svenska YLE (Finland), SVT (Sweden), DR (Denmark), and NRK (Norway). Also a co-production with Projects (Iceland), Animation Studio Iceland, and Letko (Poland).
The series is currently in production and is slated for delivery for Q1 2026, to launch on NDR & KiKA and RÚV. In addition, Compass is in development with a 45-minute Christmas special titled “Ormhildur and the Christmas Creeps.” The franchise is set to expand with the forthcoming release of a book, computer game, immersive Roblox experience, and other merchandise.
Drawing inspiration from Iceland’s deep well of folklore and mythical storytelling, the series is set in the future when all of Earth’s glaciers have melted, releasing ancient mythical creatures from the ice. The story follows the adventures of a young girl named Ormhildur as she sets off on a quest to cast a powerful spell and restore them to the ice. The creator, Thorey Mjallhvit (Þórey Mjallhvít Heiðardóttir Ómarsdóttir), is an animator, illustrator, writer, and director whose work often blends Icelandic folklore with contemporary themes.
With its compelling storytelling, loveable characters, and timely themes, Ormhildur the Brave is poised to become a standout title for broadcasters and platforms seeking a fantastical character-driven adventure story with a meaningful core.
