The Ankama studio, creators of the DOFUS and WAKFU transmedia universes, announces the acquisition of a majority stake (51%) in Andarta, an independent animation studio based in Valence, acknowledged for its artistic excellence and ability to bring stories with powerful imagery and narratives to the screen.
This equity investment marks Andarta’s official exit from court-appointed receivership. It ensures the continuation of its activities, notably the completion of the ongoing production of the animated adaptation of Ewilan’s Quest (La Quête d’Ewilan) based on the book by Pierre Bottero.
Anthony Roux, founder and creative director of Ankama, explains:
“This alliance unites two studios that share the same vision, one of high-quality, meaningful independent animation. Together, we aim to craft strong sagas at the crossroads of adventure and self-discovery. A new chapter – both creatively and structurally – is opening with Andarta. A clear artistic alignment, but also a strategic decision oriented towards the future.”
A Natural Alignment Between Two Universe-Building Studios
This investment marks a profound alignment in both editorial and artistic direction. Ewilan’s poetic and fantastical universe has now joined a rich galaxy of stories cultivated by Ankama for more than 20 years.
“After a challenging first half of the year for Andarta Pictures, the entire team is delighted to join the Ankama group! Their trust and support will let us sustain our ambitions and face the future with serenity,” insists Sophie Saget, founder and producer of the Andarta studio.
Both entities have already expressed their intention to co-develop new formats based on existing or original licenses, following a transmedia approach true to Ankama’s DNA.
Ewilan Leading the Way
The first project carried by this synergy is the animated adaptation of Ewilan’s Quest (La Quête d’Ewilan), praised for the quality of its artistic direction and faithfulness to the original work. Ankama’s support opens the door to new possibilities for production, distribution and narrative development.
